Tips for Selecting Bridesmaids Gowns
Before selecting bridesmaids gowns remember to check if the location of the ceremony has any
dress restrictions (bare shoulders, etc.)
Plan on ordering your bridesmaids gown at least five months before the wedding to allow
time for the bridal shop to receive the gowns, schedule fittings, and make alterations.
Most bridal shops will require a 50% down
payment before ordering gowns, so be prepared with cash or a credit card. Be sure your sales receipt states the correct size, color
and style with your down payment on it.
Most bridal shops will not order the dresses until all sizes and deposits are in for the entire
party. This ensures that the gowns are all cut from the same manufacturers dye lot.
Choose styles and colors that are flattering to
ALL your bridesmaids. The most flattering for all figures are simple and elegant with quality fabrics. One option is for the Maid
of Honor to be distinguished with another style or color or headpiece that is different from the others.
Out of town bridesmaids can
give their measurements over the phone to the bridal shop. It is always best to order all gowns at the same time due to dye lot variations.
When the dress comes in, send it to the bridesmaid with specific alteration instructions concerning hem length above the floor so
she can have alterations done locally.
For formal or semi-formal weddings, the bridesmaids gowns should be floor-length to tea length.
For informal daytime weddings, gowns can be long or short.
For alteration appointments make sure you take the shoes with the correct
heel height, and wear the foundation garments you plan to wear on the wedding day.
